Luangwa District is one of Zambia’s 114 Districts located in the eastern part of Lusaka Province, bordering Rufunsa District in the west and two countries Mozambique and Zimbabwe to the east and south respectively. The District administration is situated approximately 350 kilometres from Lusaka the capital city of Zambia.
Luangwa District has a population of 30,506 inhabitants and covers an area of 3,471 sq. km, which gives the District a density of 8.78 person pr. sq. km (Luangwa District Health Office, 2018). The population is concentrated along the two rivers and is primarily a rural population depending on subsistence agriculture, small scale fishing, mat making from reeds, and forest products.

Luangwa Child Development Agency (LCDA) is a child-centred, non-profit making, non-religious, non-political, Non-Governmental Organisation, working to support vulnerable children and communities of Luangwa Districts in the areas of Health, Safe Water provision, Early Childhood Development (ECD), Education, Livelihood and Child Protection.
Through the sponsorship program, ChildFund International provides funding to the LCDA for its program activities. The LCDA has over 5000 children enrolled under the ChildFund Zambia sponsorship programmes. LCDA also receives funding from other donors to implement all its programmes in the areas of Health, Safe Water provision, Early Childhood Development (ECD), Education, Livelihood and Child Protection.
LCDA was formed and registered in 2009 and operates through its three community associations of Tigwilizane, Chikondwelelo and Mandombe.
To promote child and youth development by undertaking projects that eliminates the causes of child poverty. LCDA seeks to leverage resources and capabilities by working with partners to ensure that the deprived, excluded, and vulnerable groups are not marginalized. LCDA envisage communities in which children and youth have basic needs met and are well protected from all forms of harm and abuse.

Here's what we’ve already achieved
Trained 600 women in the rearing of dairy goats for milk production
Trained 150 youth in banana production and goat rearing
Trained 60 youth in vegetable gardening
Established 3 banana plantations
Provided 60 youth with treadle pumps for irrigation
LCDA has a well-grounded community structure. It has Sections, Zones, and Community Associations which together make a Federation. ChildFund Zambia and relevant district ministries and departments are available to provide technical assistance to build community capacity, including Community Development, Social Welfare, Agriculture, Fisheries and Livestock, Education, and Health.
